Our Services

New Soil supports clients through three primary means: partnering with our clients to develop strategies, providing an array of data science and analytical services, and performing general research. We are available to work worldwide.

Strategy

Campaigners want to win. We help our clients figure out how to do that. From corporate social responsibility issues, to national minimum wage campaigns, to collective bargaining, we’ve been there and delivered.

Strategy development works best when it combines objective, thorough research with a creative spark and non-linear thinking. New Soil works on both ends of that spectrum. Our approach begins with formulating one or more hypotheses about what actions will achieve our goals. We then game-play out multiple scenarios of how the target and other actors may respond, and select the most promising approach(es). In a live campaign, we monitor real-time reaction and adjust the tactics, strategy or goals as needed.

We can serve as a brainstorming partner, the convener of a full-fledged strategy development and monitoring process, or anything in between.

Data Analytics

Grounded in the rigor of his scientific training and comfortable with modern data science techniques, New Soil’s founder has blazed a trail for quantitative work in the labor movement.

From uncovering hundreds of millions of dollars of inflated billing by healthcare providers, to analyzing competition in the airline industry from an antitrust perspective, to using airfare pricing data to determine the optimum points for industrial action, to parsing corporate reporting and regulatory compliance data for companies in the FTSE All-Share Index, we’ve extracted original and actionable insights via large-scale data analysis many times over.

In addition to supporting campaigns, our data analytics can inform the base knowledge inventory of a client, improve internal processes, or deliver a marketable information product.

General Research

New Soil delivers bespoke research that answers our clients’ questions, guides their decision-making, and provides persuasive arguments for public use.

Our research work generally focuses on business and economic issues. We are experienced in analyzing company-level competitive strategies, mapping and comparing companies within an industry, developing critiques on a range of corporate social responsibility and compliance issues, and performing in-depth financial analysis.

We can provide overall guidance on the direction of inquiry and manage the process to ensure high-quality output, calling on a network of contract researchers to scale up and down quickly in response to evolving needs.
